Post subject: | Ibex Perf Cutter blade info please? |
I have a German style bronze perfling cutter, but the 2 blades are center sharpened, not single bevel, and I don't have a grinder, so I was thinking just replace with Ibex blades. Does anyone know the width and if they are single bevel? Thanks |

Unless someone's been purfling an aluminum-bodied instrument, the cutters shouldn't be too dull. Perhaps you could hand-grind, either with sharpening stones you already own, or with sandpaper, or with a belt sander? Just try to take off the bare minumum, while following the original profile as carefully as possible. Did you test the blade to see if a file will cut it? Probably too hard, but you never know. Dan |

You can buy separate blade from LMI. They are good steel (I think they say they are made by Hock), and cheap. Dimensions are 33 x 5 x 1.4 mm - I hope they fit. One face flat, the other 2 bevels. They will work better if you sharpen and hone them once in a while. |

I would have to grind off like 5/16 of bevel to get it level, with 100 grit or something. Alexandrew, is the "5" -5 mm wide? Length and thickness don't matter too much. Thanks |
