Awhile back I asked for opinion about classical tuning machines bought from ebay; How bad could they be? Well, based upon the results here, I decided to go ahead and order a set. After all, for $25 plus $10, how bad would they have to be to be a loss? They arrived this week. And I must say that for $35 they are pretty good. They are obviously NOT high end tuners, but I would buy them again, especially with the shipping reduced to $5 for each additional set. These are Rubner knock-offs, but with the gold pattern painted on rather than being the metal showing through the painted back-plate. I bought some lower priced Rubners, too. I think that in a head to head challenge I would choose the Rubners. At the same price, the Rubners are a little more plain, but the mechanics seem a little more smooth. Still the ebay specials are nothing to complain about. In the photos, the ebay specials are the black ones with ivroid buttons. The rectangular plate Rubners are the same price, the Hauser style plate tuners are a bit more expensive, by $10, so can't quite be compared. |

It happens that I got 2 sets of Rubner's the other day and I guess they are the best in the low price 50 to 80$ category. And at least for me the clean brass designs are way nicer than the cheap looking nickel and gold plating other brands use. |
