In our house there're few things more irritating than getting comfortable on the couch with a rental DVD and the dang thing's scratched and hangs up or scrambles the movie. No problemo... walk it out to the shop and hit it with the buffer and some fine Menzerna and you're back in (show) business. Seems to happen to about one in four for us. Netflix owes me big time... -C |

warm water and dish soap will do the trick. Dry with a paper towel. A lot safer than a buffer for sure..... ![]() |

I buff out probably 2 out of 3 DVD's we check out from the local library (not much of a surprise, seeing as they're mostly children's DVD's). I keep an old cutoff wheel arbor that I chuck in my hand drill setup with a hard CD-sized backer just for this. Sometimes I can go right to the buffer, but some of those kid's movies can get some pretty deep gouges. A bit of wet sanding on the drill with 800-1200, then to the buffer, and all is good. I consider it a public service. |
