What type of brace wood do you use on a redwood top?

I have a billet of engleman. Will this do?

And do you need to brace heavier or lighter than Sitka?
What thickness to you finish the top to?

I use Sitka, Englemann or Red Spruce. heck I have even used Cedar on redwood. I prefer red spruce (addi)
