I love the look of macassar fretboards, but don't like how the striped grain becomes muddied (or even disappears) from finger oils. Does anyone out there know of a treatment--short of lacquering--that can minimize or even eliminate that phenomenon?
Thanks in advance.

I love the look of a Macassar fret board too and have used them a couple of times. But you are correct, after a while they dry out and look kind of plain Jane .........

I have always oiled mine with fret board oil from LMI. The product works well and since I have it I use although I am sure there are other things that folks could use that would work equally as well or better.

If I oil mine about 4 times a year, but since I never change strings that won't happen, the fret boards would look better.
