Hmm First I want to say that I am totally against drugs ! done my fair share of mistakes :shock: , but thats in the past :D .
I was gonna try my new little inlay jig and do my first inlay :shock: . well first I did my logo, "LS" but routed to wide so the "black" around the inlay was to big. Next I routed out the inlay, to inlay something else, larger that would take away the first mistake, hmm well it turnmed out way ugly haha, so third time, I was so excited by my mistakes so I sawed out what I wanted to be like small flames or something . WELL after inlaying it I lookt at it, there it was, a hamp !!!!! what the h... also its in EIR and this fretboard was for my B-limba guitar. haha, no prob.. Ill use it for my eir guitar nad get me another fretboard for my limba. still a hamp [headinwall] [headinwall] [xx(] perhaps it can pass as a canadian leaf hahaha. Ugliest inlay ever made !!!!
Next time perhaps I should do some test inlays before workin on the sruff needed for the build. hmmm duh
you can also see my headstock I designed 8-) not that is a revolution or anything haha.

I might just throw the darn thing in the trashcan ! ! so ugly, still first one ever made, So I´ll forgive my self. :mrgreen:

Just say no to drugs. :) It took me a bit to figure out what you meant until I saw the picture. Hemp. I was waiting to see a hampster or something. laughing6-hehe

I think it is always best to practice a technique on inexpensive materials or scrap. Heck my whole first build is materials I already had on hand. But for now, what's done is done. I don't know that it has to be entirely done though. I think you could change the design motif and go away from the marijuana influence to a tulip or cattails (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Typha) or something. Perhaps copy what youve already done onto another piece of wood and practice morphing it into something else.

Heck I applaud you for trying inlay, even if it was a bit of drug induced psychosis. laughing6-hehe

Have you thought of adding a little MOP / shell to turn the “leaf” into a flower or something abstract.

In the past when a Luthier does an inlay like yours I have heard it described as a Japanese Maple.........

Looks good for your first one Lars.Don't give up on inlaying,it's a great way of expressing yourself through art.The more you do ,the eas [:Y:] ier they get.

Don't know what your whining about Lars, that is the best red lipped spider orchid I ever seen inlayed on to a fretboard, toke hard, hold your breath, breath out slooooow and go with it grasshopper.8-)

Lars I designed my Japanese maple leaf vine in 2003 everyone in my family and thought it was hemp (cannabis sentavious) but it is not. Cannabis has 7 prong leafs. But despite of or maybe because of the confusion it is to this day one of Andy DePaule's best selling vine patterns. Don't throw it out It looks nothing like cannabis. Trust me! There once was a time when I knew well, what cannibis looked like. :oops: beehive

By the way the leafs on the guitar Mr. S is holding there are my leaf design except with out the vine. they were and still can be purchused via Andy dePaule with the vine or without.

Love that inlay pattern ! I might try to put some pearl underneath the "aloe" or leaf to make it look better, make it look like a vinerank or something.

Wonder why Howard hasn´t made any inputs on this subjekt yet ;) laughing6-hehe I have seen lots of "smokin" comments in other posts from Mr H. 8-) wow7-eyes . ;) .
