LMI has apparently discontinued the templates they carried for a while in favor of their new 3/16" acrylic ones with the bracing layouts pre-drilled in them...nice, but kinda pricey and only in certain limited shapes...got me to wondrin'...any of you CNC'ers out there thinking of supplying something like this?

Hi L.

I getting ready to cut some arch top templates for a fellow in Cal. What styles and templates are you needing? What kind of material do they need to be made from?

Mike

Larry,

Try Paul Davis (Patriot Guitars). He cut an Olson SJ and a D-28 template for me as well as fretboard slot templates. And they are great!

I can laser-cut any 3/16" or 1/4" thick acrylic template you care to come up with a vector drawing for, up to 24" x 36" max.

Cheers,
Dave F.

Hi Mike,

I'm thinking 3/16" acrylic, Martin OM, Taylor 12 and 14, and OLF SJ shapes...

Maybe if there are others interested we could get an OLF thing going here...the ones LMI offers are nice, but are limited to only the 2 or 3 shapes...I'm also thinking we could get under the $33.75 bottom line a bit...

Well....after looking at the link and doing some pricing on the 3/16" plastic, that price actually doesn't look bad at all. I know that is not the kind of news that folks want to hear, but when you factor in the material, programming, and the fact you are going to have to build/machine a vacuum fixture and then the machining time, the price looks much better! eek

Mike

ps I just remembered the guy that said he could do it with laser. That might be a better option since you would probably not have to have vac hold down. Material is going to cost about$160 for a 4X8 sheet delivered which will yield 12 pieces.

Okay, looks like LMI's the way to go...too bad they don't have the other shapes I'd like...the OM one is a regular for me tho...
