Just wondering if anyone has used Tamarack (northeastern Larch) for a sound board? I have a log from an old tree I had to cut down that's over 36" in diameter.

From what I could find through google, it seems to be stiff, and have high shear strength, but a bit dense (heavy). Just thought I'd ask, in case anyone has had experience with this wood , before I spend time cutting billets.

Thanks & Merry Christmas,
Chuck

Tamarack makes great crate slates but dont use it for a guitar . I've found it to expand and contract with the weather more than any wood I've come in contact with. Sealed boxes and cabinets changed shape and came out of square. Its not bad fire wood.
