Post subject:  What binding would you use on a Padauk instrument?

Hello all,

Thinking of starting a Padauk build and am stumped on what wood binding to use.

What have you used?

I'm thinking EI Rosewood to match the fretboard and bridge. I have a lot of maple and cherry but worry about bleeding.

Any thoughts, comments, or suggestions?

I'd love to see some of your Padauk builds too! Having trouble finding images...

Thanks,
_Mike

I built a cocobolo that had a deep orange color. I know its not the same, but it has a similar color range. Anyway, I used osage orange for binding. Really nice contrast while staying in a similar color family.

I would think you'd have a similar contrast.

Padauk will darken, so take that into account. I say Maple, koa, Os Orange...anything light IMHO.

j. - I like the rosette with the three off center rings.

The padauks I have built I went darker .... ebony, or ziricote. African Blkwood is another great choice if you can find binding long enough ...

BTW ... :o .... have fun filling the grand canyon sized pores ....

I think using padauk for the bindings as well would look good. Like Hesh's brazilian rosewood with brazilian bindings I believe.
