Post subject:  How to Clean up Tru Oil off of Fingerboard?

I just took the tape off of my fingerboard after applying Tru Oil to the Neck and as it turns out, some of the Tru Oil leaked onto the Fingerboard.

Does anyone know of a way to clean the Tru Oil off? I've tried Naptha, but it didn't do much at all.

As I'm typing this, I'm thinking maybe Everclear would work. I'm going to go try that now, but if anyone has any suggestions, any tips would be greatly appreciated.

Regards,
Blain

Carefully scrape with a razor blade, and sharp chisel along the fret.

It will sand off easily with 400 grit.

Unlike you like the vintage Gibson look, if you sand make sure you sand along the grain, and not across, especially with ebony. Only strong solvents like acetone or lacquer thinner will melt a cured oil finish.

Thanks all. I tried the alcohol and it helped some, but not a great deal.
I then used 400 grit folled by micro mesh. There were still faint signs of the oil on there, but after putting boiled linseed oil on the fretboard, it is just barely noticable. (it's my guitar #2 so I'll be keeping this one).
