They say there are no dumb questions except the one you don't ask, so here's my question that isn't dumb...

How do you check to make sure the pores are filled? I would think you hold it to the light so that you see the light reflecting off the surface and look for the dimples but I know the reflective nature of the porefiller isn't going to match the shellac or whatever you used as a seal coat. I noticed at 45 degrees to the grain the surface looks smooth but not at 90 or 0 degrees.

Also when I squeggee off the excess I'm trying clean the surface as best I can right? I don't want to leave a thin layer or anything right? This seems like it would make sanding easier but I'm also concerned about removing the filler from the pores.

I'm using LMI's microbead filler btw.

Recommend you use a different filler. I tried that stuff and had to refinish the back and sides of the two guitars I used it on. Looked level, then sank way down under the finish.
