Post subject:  2 piece split tops?
Maybe this is just new to me, but I just played a dred that has an Adi/Sitka top. The Adi was under teh trable side and teh Sitka under the bass side--it sounded incredible and the concept really intrigued me. I'm I the only one new to this concept?

This is not new. I have seen tops 1/2 spruce and 1/2 cedar or redwood. Over 100 years ago Torres built some classicals with assorted pieces from different billets (although perhaps all the same species) supposedly because the individual narrow strips had such good acoustic properties that he wanted to use them, regardless of the appearance.

Not a new concept.AS gibson put maple tops on mahogany pauls to get better tone.The more woods used on any given guitar the better for tone as far as i am concerned.The guitar you are talking about is proof of that fact. ;)

And here is the same from Andrea Tacchi, a very well known classical maker from Italy. I like the ideea of using lighter wood at the wings - it's very similar to graduating the thickness. Myself I plan to try build one with very light spruce for the wings and a heavy piece for the center.
