Good prices. Also nice to see that they have both the RA saw version and the drill press version, as well as the replacement blades. |

I think it is about $20 less than I paid for mine at Woodcraft about 5 years ago. Some day I will have a drill press to use it with  .This one looks different than the one I have. I pulled mine out and compared it. The Wagner Safety Paner version has more of a solid base and sort of a chrome plating. This one might be fine, but I think it is a different manufacturer. John |

Yea good deal. Boss (Bill Moll) uses his all time in archtops particularly the edge on tops and backs to make flat surface for glue join to rims. If I remember right after the carve, but been awhile since seen or did process and I have a memory at times like a syph. |

That is an imported knock-off of the Wagner. This tool needs to be made accurately to work correctly. I wouldn't waste my money on that rip-off when you can get the real deal for not much more. |

Yup chinese knock-off, probably still covered in the machine oil like all the crap from china. Get the real deal, they may be out of replacement parts in the future. |

As a comparison here are some pictures of the Wagner Safety Planer. Here is the bottom. This one looks like it would have more mass than the one in your link. It does have some weight to it. The other parts in the photos are used for sharpening and were included in the planer when I bought it. John |

the casted body openings would worry me. they are likely to fill with chips which will throw off the ever important ballance besides causing push off |

Yes, and note 'Patent number", and sharpening stone on the REAL one. Chinese schminese, they will rule the world soon enough, no need to help them out any more than you should..

Just checked at the Woodcrafters web site and the real thing is $55 and probably can be got cheaper at some places. Even in the pictures it looks much better made. Fred |

I must sheepishly  admit that I ordered one of these before you guys pointed out that it was an import.It looks different from the Woodworker's Supply ad in that the body is solid like a Wagner. It has the Leichtung Workshops logo cast into the topside. Nelson |

I believe the one in the picture on the website is the Wagner Super Safe T Planer, which fits the radial arm saw. I have one, and it has those gaps in the bottom that you see in the picture. I also have the Drill press one, and it is solid. I bet the folks that make the Wagner also make the Leichtung one. Leichtung is one of the Woodworkers Supply Divisions, or vice versa, and they are pretty reliable. |

I think you're probably right, Waddy. Now that you mention it I've had a safety planer for a radial arm saw for a number of years and it's hollow on the back also. I made an arbor for it for use on a drill press or mill. The only downside to this is it has to be run in reverse. Not good if I forget. The radial arm version would normally run at a much higher speed than most drill presses. Nelson |
