OK all you finish guys. I have a commision that uses an otherwise perfect Adi top baring the fact it has two rather noticable darken discoloration in two areas near the butt and top of upper bout but only on one side of the top set. Thes areas are very noticable with out finish and will jump out under finish. So the client and my self have desided to burst the top just enought to hide the spots rather than replace the top. Now, if I was finishing this guitar I prefer to spray the burst in a thin cut of shellac but this guitar is going out for cat poly finish. So the question to you guys is; Will it be best to stain the wood directly or would my standard practice of shellac sprayed burst with a light clear seal coat of shellac be best? |

I would say you need to check with your farmer to see what his requirements are!! |

Michael you can tint poly just like you tint other finishes. Is this an automotive poly? If so, there are tons of good toners to use for the tint. Mike |

I like to have a coat of shellac underneath a burst, just in case it should need a do-over. I hear that this happens sometimes. |

I just got a burst back from Joe today. If you let him spray the burst and do the poly you will not be disappointed! Justin |
