I started back to work Friday and worked Saturday but got some shop time today and worked on my latest side project. A couple more hours and a couple of springs and set screws and I should be finished.

I know, some photos would be nice, but was too busy. I got the kerfed linings glued to the harp guitar body. Really starting to look like a real harp guitar! As soon as I can, I will post some pics, especially of how I bound the harp neck sides to the neck block. Too cool! Used Hofffman's idea.

I didn't get much shop time this weekend but the 1/16" downcut spiral bit and the bwb wood purfling came in Friday so I was able to finish up the rosette. I also drilled and tapped the head block for the set screws for the Doolin-type neck joint. I had some 1/2" long 1/4-28 set screws I thought I'd use but the maple didn't tap very well for the fine threads so I put a layer of epoxy in the holes and will try re-tapping tonight. I'm still struggling with the logo design.

Very bad binding that's what I did managed to close a lot of the gaps by wicking thin super glue in and clamping either with some large spool clamps or a sash cramp just levelling now hence the post on finishes

I cut some really nice spruce - a lovely blue spruce Christmas tree, that is, from the top of our hill!

I upgraded my bending iron to using a charcoal starter, instead of a soldering iron. Much faster and easier to control.

Then I bent my purflings for my rosette assembly for #2.
Here is the bent wheat.

Here is all the bent purflings, including some I ended up not using.

Here is the assembled rosette. The guitar has EIR back and sides, so the alternating tiles are EIR, which is my "trademark" rosette design. The outer and inner rings are changeable, as are the dividers between the tiles.

Next I prepared the top to receive the rosette.

Clearing the channel took me about 25 or 30 minutes. I had one gouge out, in the bottom of the channel. You can see it sitting on the rosette board in the upper right. I glued it back in with hide glue, just for practice, and to keep the rosette channel fairly flat in the bottom. Worked fine. Then I transferred the rosette to the top, and used the extended open time Titebond, that I saw in Robbie's Tips du Jour. (We used to call our gutar ensemble "The Group du Jour" :D It still dries up too fast. I don't want to use CA, or epoxy. I actually like to get a bit of swell working in the wood, to help fill the tiny gaps. Anyway as I was finishing, I noticed that i missed an alternation in the pattern. [headinwall] [headinwall] Tore it out, washed the tiles off, and threw away the purflings which were a mess. gaah

Actually, I used Chris Paulick's videos as the guide to make my own micro circle cutter. And it came out great. The tele knob is a bit hard to turn, but it seems to work ok.

Got the rims leveled and the perfling/binding channels cut on my OM. Also routed out the cavity for the end graft. Explored some options from forum members for gluing in the perfling/abalone/binding--thank you very much!

I also sat in on classes from a few local martial arts places. I want a black belt :D

Finally finished this OM/DQM which had been kicking my butt for about three months. Had to strip and refinish the top...don't ask...and just couldn't get it right. Had to put my patience to the test but finally gave in and took my time and wow what a great guitar. Wish it didn't have to go. Sorry for the poor pics but just shot them in the shop with flash and no tripod. Its Carpathian Spruce/Quilted Honduran Mahogany/BRW peghead overlay/Curly Maple bindings/ebony bridge and fingerboard/violet inlay at 12th fret. I'll try to take a closeup of that later. WHEEEEEWWWWWWW!!! Glad this one's done. Thanks to all the folks who post on here. It really helps me alot. Glad the OLF is here!!

Dave, that is a beautiful mold!

Here are some harp guitar progress pics. Not pictured is the almost finished back. The last picture offers a reason why it is taking me so long. ;)

See if you can spot a mistake I made (sure, there are plenty, but I am talking about a big mistake.) One I will not do anything about since it really does not matter to me. Note the joint I used to bind the harp neck to the neck block. Love that SC reverse kerfed lining! Beautiful stuff.

PS: I meant to offer appropriate credit for the harp neck joint: Charles Hoffman.

Mike, that's a great picture of your son and the dog. Looks just like my youngest son and our dog. He is always using her for a pillow. Looks like we even have the same dog bed! LOL
