I guess more aimed at the UK posters (or Zoot suppliers that ship to Europe) - but despite Touchstone tonewoods, David Dykes etc (two suppliers in the UK), I am struggling to find suppliers that have the selection of available in the US, be it Cocobolo, or Madagascan RW or less exotic but highly figured sets....and Adirondack tops. I know several companies will ship but as most will know its actually nice to see/touch check out these things before parting with cas, especially given the import duties/shipping costs etc if ordering from the US. Do any of the UK posters have any recomendations of their preferred suppliers in the UK or how do you go about getting your hands on some tasty Zoot? |

Hello Frank, Greetings from East Sussex, I build steelstrings and have had the same problem. I live fairly close to Dave Dyke and use him a lot. He said recently he would have some Zirotote in stock. The other place I have been using for a long time is Timberline in Tonbridge ,he has some unusual stuff at times plus not to far to go. |

Hi Rick Greetings from the West! Yup David has some Zirocote at the moment, but would need to be a three piece back - and he supplied the nice flamed Macassar I used on my first, but no joy so far on any of the more interesting Rosewoods, or on Adirondack tops... not heard of Timberline, do they have a web site? |

http://www.guitartonewoods4luthiers.co.uk/ saw some of thier stuff at the cheltenham show, they had some nice coco, mad rose, and wanx river rosewood (not a true rose wood, but looked like mad rose with a crazier figure, had a really nice tap tone, which is aparently similar to african blackwood, what ever that means, im not expericened enough to really understand tap tone.) |

hi Frank an’ all This came up a wee while back and coincidentally I had a spell when I was scouring the web for tonewood suppliers this side of the pond I posted some of my findings here - viewtopic.php?f=10101&t=18039&hilit=madinter I now have a larger selection and have bought tops and backs from a couple, suffice to say my tutor in guitar making was impressed enough to contact the supplier of my soundboards with a view to buying a stack o’ them. good hunting yours Geordie |

Thats great Geordie and thanks - any specific supplier you have had good experiences with? PS. What's the building scene like in Scotland? Might be moving back there next year as the good Lady is from West Lothian and wants us back in the chilly North - Has promised I can have a room/shed as a workshop though so more than happy to accommodate her wishes! |

Your allways welcome to drop me an email if you need wood guys, i have been closed for the last three weeks due to ill health (been in hospital for while due to long term health probs i have hence lack of posts for a few weeks) but i will doubling my efforts to get wood out to the uk market in the new with the website being revamped and new stock comming in as we speak. if you email me please email through my mac.com address not the g-mail address as i have been having trouble with that one. I Am the only uk dealer who is a sponser here and really try to offer woods like cocobolo mad rose etc in fact that ismy specialality and i try not supply the standards is as large quantity,s as the rarer stuff. i will do custom orders for people but please dont expect me spend too much time on very small orders such 5 binding strips etc allthough i will help where i can. i am also just a one man show in my first six months of trading and the company has yet to be launched as fully running company (jan the 6th for official launch date by the way) so can not offer the serivice i would like at the moment. however i have large amounts of mad rose in stock as well as honduras rosewood cocobolo cuban mahogany etc etc and i am willing to helpsource rarer woods where i can. i now have a new deal with ups that means i can ship all packages for £7 up to 15kg and £12.50 thereafter and all packages will out on one of the three shipping days a week closest to your order date for next day delivery. hopefully the new year will see a good year for me with a new employee coming in to help me awnser emails get shipments out etc to leave me time to consantrate on buying stock and resawing wood etc. if you need anything email me at fingermoel@mac.com and i will get back to asap. please dont use the g-mail address on the website only 50% of emails get to me via that route and it will be taken down before the new year. At the moment it makes sense for people in the uk to buy in the country if they can becouse the pound is down against the doller and euro. while this push,s prices up in the uk it should still be cheaper for you to buy here that to buy from the states when you factor in exchange rates, shipping, and import duty,s. I look forward to helping you out where i can. joel. |
