Hey guys, just wanted to show off my latest. Just finished it this morning, plugged it in and really like the sound. It's got a really gritty and bright bite to it, but I can roll back the tone knob and get nice warmer tones too.

top and back are redwood with poplar center
neck is curly maple and walnut lam. one piece fender style
pickguard is from a '69 tele thinline reissue
pickups are the Wilkinson set from Stew Mac

Finish is... well, not quite as nice as I was hoping for. After moving things around in my build pricess because I'm too impatient to wait for the mailman, I've learned an important lesson. There's a reason others do things in the order they do, you should too. Anyway, I used water based aniline dyes for the burst. Started with amber and a hint of brown, then sanded back to bring out the flame. Then, I did the burst with a really dark brown. 2 coats shellac to seal things, then 15 of tru-oil.

Thanks for looking
Rob

Cool looking guitar, Rob. Looks like a lot of fun to play!
How did you go about cutting the fret slots? By hand? Machine?

Thanks for looking. I cut the fret slots by hand. I use wfret and print a template. Then i make sure everything is squared up and score with a razor knife. Then I use my fret saw with a block next to it to keep things square. Works for me. This guitar's intonation is spot on to my ears. Hopefully that process will be replaced when I get stew mac setup for xmas. Santa, are you reading this??????

I'm pretty sure that Santa IS reading this.
He logs on using the handle "JJ Donohue".

Hey Santa, a Lump-o-coal could be nearly as desirable as a Tub-o-lard. Can't wait til the 25th! (of December....)

Very nice Rob. I love the striped neck. What kind of pups did you install?
