Hi

Yesterday I jointed and got ready to glue up the two halfs of the soundboard for my next guitar. Unfortunately I managed to contaminate the glue and therefore stopped and quickly wiped off the glue (Titebond) leaving a thin smear on each half.

Next step is to leave it a couple of days then re-joint and re-glue.

I understand the importance of removing the old glue. So my question is: Is it enough to just take a couple of passes with the plane to remove the glue from the gluing surfaces or do I need to remove more material? Will the glue have penetrated the wood ?

Thanks for the help

Richard IMHO I would think that the penetration would be very minimal so just plane back to bare wood and then reglue, after candling of course, with the freshly planed joint with bare wood exposed in all places. I doubt if you will be removing more than several thousandths of an inch of wood.

You should be fine with a couple plane passes - next time though i would simply wipe with a damp cloth, then add more glue and continue clamping it up, no need to wait a day ... been done before.
