Here's the binding machine in operation. It's a 2 part video.

Chris...you don't have any issues moving over your router table plate do you? The reason I ask is that some of those Rousseau router plates have a slight crown to them that may pitch the cradle around. If that one doesn't, no worries. If you're having issues with your binding channels, you may want to check that.

No, mine seems to be pretty flat. I had a place that the binding channel was a bit thin and it turned out to be that the side was a littled bit pressed in above where the bearing was riding on the side. But it turns out that area is where the blocking for the arm rest is. It will be routed out at a 45* later so it won't be an issue. That's another video I guess. That's if I don't screw it up, it will be a first for me. idunno :)
Thanks for the heads up on that.

Thanks Chris for the video.

I built myself one of those also, using the LMII plans (with a few mods of my own).
Haven't put it to the final test yet, but should soon, as I closed up the box on my #2 last week. I'm shopping for a good lam trimmer at this point, so I can finalize that part of the machine (attachment and UHMW block design), then will give it a shot.

I like the idea of the footswitch for this process particularly, will incorporate that also into mine. Is the counterweight's purpose mainly to avoid accidentally slamming the router down onto the top, or is there something else it helps with, like overall better control of contact against top?

I also am intrigued by your bearing/cutter arrangement and might consider that option also on my inevitable 'second revision' of the jig.

Your videos are very helpful and done well. Love the T-shirt on the 'putting the back plate on' series, BTW.

Thanks again!

The counter weight is mainly to take weight off the top. Depending on your set up. Mine was too heavy without the counter weight. It would leave a compression line on the soft spruce top. I have a small block cut to length to stop the router from going all the way down. It just shims it up. I suppose if you wanted to you could brill holes in the side and put a dowel through them to change the stop. The bearing will do for now until I can afford the bearing set or some more routers to preset. I'd like to have some routers and a bit for them that I could just have the correct bearing attached too. But dream on.

Chris, I watch all of your tutorials and I really like them. I like the jigs and fixtures you design, and I like the modifications that you figure out for other designs. But what really impresses me is the clarity of your demonstrations and the ease with which I can understand them. You're a natural. I've produced a lot of long-form videos in my advertising career.
Sure, there were times when we had fancier lighting set-ups and higher-tech audio recording, and I employed some excellent audio/visual people for those projects. But I doubt that we ever managed to explain or demonstrate our product any more simply and clearly than you do--and you seem to do it every single time. And I expect you're doing it with the sort of equipment that anyone could purchase. I really respect the demos you produce.
