If I made a tortoise pickguard and drilled a very small pilot hole in the wrong spot on the guard, what are my options? Are there any ways to make a dowel this thin? The guard is made from celluloid tortoise. Are there any other ways to fill it in? When I put the guard on top of the guitar the hole is not that visible (the guitar is quite dark in that area). I know I could always drill another hole in the guard but it would be nice to fill this first somehow. I posted a similar question a couple months ago but that was in regard to the hole in the guitar top. Just to be clear I am talking about the pickguard's hole this time. ![]() -John |

CA a piece of tortoise to the wrong end of a drill. Spin up in drillpress & file/sand to the shank diameter. Remove, use the same drill to enlarge the hole & inlay. |

Hi Hesh! Yes, a pic probably would help but it will be a few hours till I can upload one here. Dave Stewart wrote: CA a piece of tortoise to the wrong end of a drill. Worst part is that it sounds like you probably have a solution! ![]() -John |

He means cut out a piece of tortoise, CA it to the shaft end of a drill, chuck the other end in your drill, sand the tortoise to the diameter of the drill. Remove the little dot of tortoise, turn the drill around, drill out the hole to the same size, and then glue the little dot into the hole. All fixed! |

That's quite brilliant! I'm glad there are places like these. I still don't know what "CA it" means. CA as in the glue?
