I have an adirondack top that lost an argument with a thickness sander. oops_sign
As a result, it is about 0.080'' thick. Not one to despair, I figure now would be a good time to learn how to make a double top. ;)
This top is a nice stiff one with an even grain, so I want to use it. It's just not stiff enough to be useful at 0.080" by itself. I was going to use it to make an OM sized 6 string, and I prefer playing fingerstyle. This guitar is just for me, and so there is little pressure. I'm happy to experiment and am looking foreward to learning this.
I was going to use nomex from LMI and trying to decide what else to use in the sandwich. I'm thinking of using some Sitka from the Zootman that he suggests using for double tops. I'd hesitate to spend extra money for an additional piece of adi, unless there was strong reason to.
I was also wondering about how thick each board in the sandwich should start off being, before fine tuning the thickness to achieve approriate stiffness. How thick do double tops usually end up being? Are there other caveats that I need to be aware of?

Randy Reynolds did a great story in the GAL a few years back.

I'm with Tony, .08 is not unreasonable for a small guitar. Save it for then.
