| Post subject: | Glue for side reinforcement |
I'm to the step of gluing on the side reinforcements (will be spruce) and was planning on using HHG because I've got a lot of it mixed up right now and I like it. I got to thinking though that some say that HHG will release with a big shock - side reinforcements are supposed to hold the sides together....so, is the talk of HHG's shock sensitivity greatly exaggerated or might it be better to use something like titebond that has a little give? Either choice is equally easy for me to use. |

Andy either glue would be fine but also consider what Todd said about where and why he uses side supports and not just side tapes. It may be that side tapes would be fine for you. |

Todd & Hesh have given you very good advise. I use Titebond for my side struts! Never had a failure in over 30 years! The size (width-thickness) are just as important. Look at Flamenco guitars & the size of thier side braces! Tape really offers No real support to pressure applied to a side. But may help with cracks! The wider your sides the more important it is to have a solid support for them. Plus a stiff side brace will help to keep the sides from robbing a bit of sound from your top! BUT that's another post!
