Hello, Which method of dyeing maple veneer for rosette application do you suggest? Are aniline dyes the best choice? I have decided to dye the veneers as it is much cheaper than buying veneers which are already dyed. The money saved can be used for tonewood purchases. After all; I am sure that the Spanish builders dyed their own. How do you get it thoroughly soaked. Also, does anyone have a good source for purchasing the dyes? I have received the Schramm on line cd rom for the Rodriguez guitar and the GAL plan for the same. So, I am embarking Sincerely, Ronald |

I would put this into the "more trouble than it's worth category". Dyed veneers are dyed under pressure to get the pigment to penetrate. A pressure cooker might work, but I have never tried it. I have to replace the purflings on a guitar when I tried to dye some maple blue and sanded through the color in about three seconds. |

I boiled the veneer together with fabric dye and some salt added. |

This came up a long time ago and I'm pretty sure the agreement was the best method was a pressure cooker of some sort. My vote is with the "more trouble than its worth" After you buy the dye and buy the veneer, set up some sort of boiling/cooking method.. If your time has any value your money ahead just buying it.. especially if your just making enough for one guitar. Then again my inner problem solver/tinkerer says "make your own and tell me how it works out" ![]() |
