Hello everyone,
I decided not long ago that I would really like to take on the challenge of building an acoustic guitar. Lurking here for a while has only reinforced that. Most of the tools I currently have are not very well suited for lutherie (most are home improvement type tools). So I would like to make my first build with hand tools to see if it is something I'd like to continue to do before investing in expensive power tools. Can you guys make some recommendations on the hand tools I will need to get started? For instance, what type of hand plane for thicknessing backs and sides. There seem to be many types and sizes. Thanks in advance for the suggestions and also for posting your successes and failures. This is a grat forum and clearly all of you are interested in helping others and progressing the craft.

Jay

Have a look at this thread for a start. Others will probably chime in with advice.

Jay, I would suggest having the woods thicknessed for you by whomever you decided to buy from. It might cost you another $15.
