hey guys i was just wondering where you guys place your dehumidifiers to get the best effects. do you just place it the corner and forget about it or is it better placed in a more central position in the shop. i have some great cold temprature dehumidifiers that easily take the rh down to 45% and are perfect for our british enviroment (which at the moment is switching between 45 -78 regulery) but i am thinking about saving energy here etc. i would just like you views for my guitar making shop not the wood business. Best location is somewhat central to your room and elevated, bench height or higher. |

And you should have a fan to circulate air in the room. |

Elevated also helps if you are going to plumb the dehumidifier to a drain. I am dealing with placement right now and as much as I know that central is better I HATE the noise that these things make.......... And mine is pretty quiet compared to some of the others on the market too. When you say cold weather dehumidifiers are these different from what we have in the states? What is available here rarely will work well below 70F and they freeze up. |

thanks for the reply guys i was thinking central placement mt had not thought of elevation. luckily i have plety of shecentral to the room that will be perfect for it to live on. hesh these are the machines i have. i have one in my little personal guitar building shop and two in the store rooms/workshop where my wood is kept for the business. my workshop is allways at about room temprature (about 18c or 65f) but the wood shop can get colder than that. i do of course have heating on a timer but try to keep the temprature at about room level if i can. i think these dehumidifiers can run in much colder enviroments though. apparantly this graphite technolagy cant freeze up whatever the temprature (i would like to see it try to in the arctic though ![]() what i do know though is that it works very well for me and pulls huge amounts of moisture from the air very quickly and keeps the rh level at 45% (its allso very very quiet. i leave it in on for 4 hours then off for two. seems to work for me so far. i was just not so sure about optimal placement. Mine is positioned at one end of a 50-foot-long shop, with a fairly quiet low-velocity circulation fan toward the other. The fan also is a help during air conditioner season, here. My best advice on placement is to situate the unit as far away from the dusty area as possible - wood dust will accrete on the wet condenser and ruin the machine. I shut mine off when I'm cranking out the dirt, and you might also consider taping one of thost foam or felt-ish replacement AC filters over the dehumidifier's intake. |

Joel, a few months back I posted asking the same question and received some very helpful responses. Here's a link... viewtopic.php?f=10101&t=16883&hilit=dehumidifier Good Luck! |
