I just saw a good article in Fine Woodworking about making scraping cards. I have some leftover stainless. Would that work? Or do I want spring steel? Anybody have additional tips on making scraping cards before I start? Mike |

Hey Todd, will those cards hold with simple burnishings? Mike I am going to order those. Do you round the corners? |

Todd, meant to ask if I should buy sanding stones and a burnisher while I was at it. Which ones? Mike |

There is also a forgotten burnishing technique I have read about, it requires a sharp point burnisher, and you run the point in the < section of the newly made scraper turning. I think 2 Cherries is the only one who makes this style burnisher. |

As usall I am a bit late here and Todd has pretty much covered every thing . However I will say this about stainless steel. the lower carbon level in common SS (ASTM 304 316 and such) will cause the drawn out and then turned burr to be brittel. This will cause a more ragged cutting and lead to quicker dulling. There are of course stainless tool steels most card makers use. but they have more carbon than the typical stainless found in most stainless (non-tool steel) products. often hadness is confussed with the ability to hold an edge. |

I bought the $15 scrapers and a burnisher. Held off on the stones as I do not know what I need, and I want something I can use with chisels too. Thanks for the advice (and future advice on stones etc.) PS: Go to pick up my big tools tomorrow. |
