Never to soon to talk about this wonderful event!
Who is going and what'cha taking!

I know the application acceptances started to go out last week.

Id love to know how many OLF'er are going to make the trip!
Maybe we could organize a small dinner or something somewhere after the show?

I have two that I will be delivering at the show. One will be an LS Redwood Madrose E2, the other a D14 with an Addy top and a killer set of Amazon rosewood for the back and sides.

My third will be a Presentation E2. German Spruce top, Brazilian rosewood B&S, ab top purf, bound everything...

That's my plan anyways! Well see how it pans out.

How about you?

Lance,
I think I may be able to make it this year. Do you know where we can find more information about it?
Lets meet!

I think I'd bring 2 spec Zions and may deliver a customer guitar there too....

Thanks,

I'll be going, and taking my girlfriend. :) I met you (Lance) at the last one. It's funny, I'd been a minimal poster on the forum for over a year or so, and you were the first person at HB who really started talking with me. I didn't realize who ya were until you mentioned the OLF. Was kinda cool. :D

So I'm planning on going, but I'll be a lurker there too.

Kewl! I have a tendency to be a big mouth, so im not surprised:D

Peter, if you have not applied, id urge you to call Chris today.
Apps went out over a month ago, and they review and select who the invite.

I'm in.

I need to evaluate what I will be bringing. I might need to take commissioned instruments.

I'll be there. I've just started one I'm pretty sure I'll bring. It's a 00-13 BRW back & sides, rest to be determined. I have a 1929 spec OM prototype (bar frets, ebony neck rod, hide glue, banjo tuners, etc.) that I'll finish in the next couple of weeks. I'm sending it out on the road, so depending on it's condition when it gets back, I may bring it. Not sure about what else, I've got plenty of time to think about it.

It's hard to get on the "list" apparently. There are a LOT of local west-coast luthiers who are peedoff about not getting in or even being asked if they wanted in.

Just an idea, but what if we were to find another venue in Healdsburg at the same time as the main event, and open it up for the "other" luthiers to use? Would anyone care? How many people, who didn't get asked, would be interested?

I agree with you and that may be a great idea!

I'm looking forward to going for the first time this year (as a visitor). It will be cool to see you all and your instruments.

I've never been under the impression that they try to exclude anyone or play favorites (although they do legitimately ask for referrences from first time exhibitors). There is simply a limited amount of space. I applied about this time in 2004 for the 2005 show and they were full then too. I asked to be put on their mailing list for 2007 and they did. I applied for 2007 as soon as I got the application and was accepted. Same this year. I had no connections there and had not done a great deal of business with LMI. I just got my application in as early as possible.

They work hard and put on a great event. I would encourage anyone who wants to exhibit to ask to be put on their mailing list, keep in touch, and apply early.

Kent is right on here. They dont play favorites, you just gotta be QUICK when the apps go out.
I had my app in 10 minutes after I got it in the email..
Didnt get an App? Call Chris and ask to be put on the list. There is no way humanly possible that they could
know everyone out there.
Also as Kent said, you need referances. For me, I met with Chris in 2005 at the ASIA Symposum and showed him two of my guitars.
The also try to fill the field of builders with different price ranges.

Post subject:  Re: Healdsburg Guitar Festival 09 Who is going and what ya takn?

I had a great time last time I went down (05?.. Man time goes by fast). I'd like to go. Especially since I'm getting left at the shop for the NAMM AGAIN gaah

Won't be taking anything with me this time.. Well maybe a few business cards and a camera ;) I think I'll just fly in/out, guess it will depend on if I bring anyone else along.. That is a long drive from BC alone and with gas at the price it is I bet it would be cheaper to just fly if your by yourself.

I know a lot of you guys are too busy showing to catch much but just wandering around that place can be pretty inspiring.. And the seminars, classes and performances are great.

I'll be going. I'm taking a classical, a small jumbo and something yet to be determined.

I'm in.
Probably bring a presentation Freestyle, and hopefully a couple new versions- a 15 fret long scale, and a 13 fret parlor. We'll see if they get done in time.
I'm also going to bring at least the prototype Quatre I had in Miami, if not a new one in better materials.

Everyone who asks to be notified when they are accepting applications gets notified at the same time by email. Then they start accepting applications at a specified time. You express an interest first; they don't seek you out and ask you to apply.

Lance,
We're going this time. Probably try to take one of each model we make, so there's some work needing to get done.
Very much look forward to meeting you and Brock.
Also very much need to sell something, or we'll be stuck in California.

Thanks, but I know this already Howard. What I, and a bunch of other west coasters that I've talked to at the NCAL meetings, have issue with is that we've asked to be put on the list, but somehow they conveniently forget to do it......we never get the email despite asking to "join in".

I'm seriously considering my idea of finding an alternative Healdsburg venue for the disaffected.....I'll see how many are interested at the next NCAL meeting.

I'm in also, I'll be building a couple of cocobolo guitars. One will be one of my double tops.
This is a great event and would encourage any who can come, do so, just to check out all the instruments. So many great instruments in one location, what a treat.

In '05 Paragon showed up with a booth full of guitars that were commisioned or borrowed from clients.. (correct me if I'm wrong. This was what the guys in his booth told me, Rob was getting something to eat when I saw his booth)

Dave,
Just wonder, have you ever gave Chris a call to ask if there was a problem?
They are so nice at LMI that I just cant see them "intentionally" doing something spiteful.
For what reason would they have?

Also, who are the builders being left out?

I look forward to seeing my friends this year. Glad to hear I'll finally be able to meet Steve K. I met John at Miami and talked to Steve on John's phone but it'll be great to see you in person and check out your guitars. I don't yet know what I'll bring but probably guitars!!!

That's bad, but I doubt that anyone at LMI did it purposely (why would they? if they don't want someone in the show, they could just not accept their application). It won't help for this year, but please bring it to Chris or Natalie's attention.

Post subject:  Re: Healdsburg Guitar Festival 09 Who is going and what ya takn?

Thinking about it again, I don't think setting an event to be "competing" (or apear to) with the Healdsburg festival would be a good idea.
I would not be interested for sure. Maybe another place, another time....

Thanks
