I wondered about this myself. So far I didnt see any info on the internet. But I imagine it has to be very similar to Torres.

hi David
many thanks.
seven fan braces?
and no diagonal ones at the bottom. Mmm
That looks like it might be an original?
If so - have you any dimensions / angles particularly the fans.
thanks again
yours Geordie

Coool pics David many thanks.

Sides are cypress, and no bottom braces, it must be more of a flamenco instead of a classical.

I will guess that the fan focal is somewhere high, 8th fret or so.
Braces are replacements? Pretty tall at least 5, maybe even 6-7mm, and 6-7 wide. The top must be very thin?

Geordie, checking in the Courtnall book, the Santos Hernandez plan puts the center to center measurement of the line through the fans at 35mm at the Transverse Brace, and 45mm C/C at the widest part of the lower bout. The fans are 7mm wide and 3.5mm high and triangular in cross section. There is no bridge patch or, as is customary in Flamenco Guitars, closing braces. The body is 485mm long, LB = 363, UB = 274 and W = 236. Top Thickness 2.1 back 2.0. David's pictures give a pretty good look at the layout, and the plan, while it looks a little more even, is much like the picture. The only real difference I see is that in the picture the the braces seem slightly shorter than in the plan, but it could just be the way it looks.

Thanks Waddy. 35 with 45 spacing makes for even less slanted braces, even more flamenco. Similar to a Barbero where they are close to being parallel.

Courtnall's book has a chapter on S. Hernandez.....pages 50 through to 60. His bracing is fairly simple - 7 fan braces 3.5mm x 7mm. Upper and lower cross brace (17 x 7mm) and 20 x 1.5mm patches either side of sound hole. No UTB, upper bout patch or bridge patch.

Geordie, David Dyke (Luthiers Supplies) lists a Santos Hernandez plan on his website.
