Ok, this still needs a pickguard and floating pickup added but I thought I show you where I am at with it. This is my first attempt at building a guitar other than a bolt-on solid body. I made all the wood parts including the fingerboard. I bought the truss rod, tuners, bridge and tailpiece. The woodworking looks very good. The top and back carve is subtle and sexy. I am quite proud of the construction process. I am not as thrilled with my finish. The prep work could have been better as some of the grain filler seems to have shrunk leaving some open pore on the back. Also my sunburst seems like its fading each day. Strange for sure..... You can't get to much more stripped down than this. Body binding only. This was made with all scrap wood. Top and sides are Aspen back and neck are mahogany. Fingerboard and headstock is Indian rosewood.

Here is a low res picture that probably is close to the real color:

Here is a higher res photo that is still pretty close to the right color:

This is outdoors and way overexposed:

Wow, Joe, that is a very fine first effort. I like the sunburst, and your work looks really good. I'm impressed. Does it play and sound as good as you'd hoped?

Thanks OldMan!

I am a very picky guitar player...so the neck had to be right! It is almost identical in feel to my 58 Gibson. So for those that like a full C shaped neck, they will love this one. It plays excellent all the way up and down the board. I could easily play this one all night long instead of my 58 Gibson or 59 Gretsch. SOUND? Well, its hard to say because I have electric guitar strings on it. Light gauge to boot. So it does not have a really great opportunity to sound good accoustically. With that said, it sounds very ballanced and full. Its not all that loud, but that could be the strings. I have a pickup that mounts on the pickguard. It needs electric strings to work right....so that's what I used.

Its bare bones, but I think its a pretty good first attempt at a build.

Joe

Very impressive Joe, particularly since it's your first build.
