IMO Allied sells the best. It's designed by Mark Blanchard a fellow OLFer and one excellent Luthier. |

And yet another vote for Allied's very fine truss rod. Dimensionally it is the same as LMI's rod and they both weigh around 119 grams. This is where the similarity ends. Allied's rod is stainless steel making it less susceptible to corrosion and uniquely threaded in such a manner that provides a gearing effect making it far easier to turn. In fact these rods can be adjusted out of the guitar with just your fingers and no wrench. Additionally LMI's rods may have welds that protrude outside the form factor. These welds need to be filed/belt sanded flat to fit well in a 1/4" truss rod slot. With the Allied rods the welds are within the form factor saving a step. It is superbly made and beautifully engineered - the best rod there is IMHO. |

+4 on the Allied truss rod. I used to use LMII's 2 way Martin style, but the Allied rod is superior for all the reasons listed by Hesh. And Bob's right, they're on sale this week, $3 off .. at least through Sep. 19th. (According to their email) |

I use the Allied rod too... The new version is vastly superior to the old. It uses & coarse thread on one end & fine thread on the other which gives much better mechanical advantage that the older left / right thread units. Unlike Hesh, I have had to lightly file the welds on a few of the rods I've used... No big deal. They are cheaper by the dozen & Allied will mix lengths in one order. |

That's the one David, I've done single action rods like Howard does on a few and like that design. It works well too. |

Allied for me also!!! I've used Stew-Macs rods also! They are well made and work great!! I used to make my own but the time & cost got to be a factor! Mike |

I'll be the odd guy here as well: I use StewMac's hotrod. Since it seems I'm the only one here using it, is there anything wrong with it? (Although I've been quite happy with it so far...) |

Alain; There is nothing wrong with the Stew Mac Hot Rod! I think the pricing is one of the reasons makers do not try them! Also -truss rods are not a item to fool with-makers want to get the ones others have had success with! I'm 100% happy with the Stew Mac "Hot Rods" I really like them!! Mike |

Do you Allied truss rod guys use sillicone in your truss rod slot to prevent rod buzzing? Do you use a rounded or square bit for your slot? |

Jeremy There are installation recommendations on the Allied website. The use of a filler strip is advised to prevent rod rattle. It also makes the rod work more precisely. I do not use silicone. Mark |

What Mark said, filler strip or spline on top, use a hardwood (only need like 1/8" max), no silicone here either. I use a 1/4" flat bottom spiral bit to cut the channel. |

Ok so I just ordered 12 of these from Allied. I was only going to order 6 but @$12 a piece when you get dozen or more. I guess I have to build atleast 12 guitars.  David |
