What did you get done?

I got about 40% of my Spanish top and back gluing system built. I am actually building two since the harp guitar boards are so big. Also got my harp side re-bent (it was inside out, doh!)

Not very impressive, huh?

I got my extension table for my TS made. I finished and leveled my outfeed table, as well as laid some of the anti-fatigue tiles from Harbor Freight.

Made a jig for slotting bridges. Made some bridges. Another jig for drilling neck bolts, working on modifying it to drill holes in the neck block in the proper place. Glued up the first scratch-built neck, headstock cut to pattern, roughed in the shaft and heel, cut the slot for truss rod and CF bars from JImW. Pretty easy so far, having a decent table saw was a plus. Picked up the new kayak from REI, saw Kung Fu Panda at the neighborhood discount theater with my wife and kids. Wonderful twin girls my daughters age are spending the night - their parents have overlapping business trips.

It was a good weekend.

I had a busy weekend! I got a much needed haircut at Sal's, had a great dinner out with my girlfriend's family, watched some Madmen on the computer, went to a really fun NEL meeting/cookout and saw Burn after reading earlier tonight! It was great! I also got some guitar work done.

Got the purfling and binding done and prepped for inlay on a new headstock and also got some final setup work done on this guy for delivery next weekend (that is Joe's killer finish on there):

I also spent some time thinking about everyone in the Gulf coast and Texas hoping for the best for everyone dealing with the aftermath of the storm.

Cool thread, I've wondered at times what others do on the weekend.
My wife works weekends in nursing so our actual weekend is wednesday and thursday.
So Sat/Sun is the same for us.
Worked on resawing some woods, bent a set of maple sides, joined a back set.
Tested the 3 oldest kids on geography and history, (home schooled),
put 2 year old down for nap, made lunch and dinner, checked game scores, cut truss rod groove in two necks, took kids out for ice cream
and rented a movie.
Put movie in, started ripping out purple heart binding , but decided to play a little and found this thread.
Yesterday was pretty much the same except for a walk to the park and spelling test. Those are fun. Inlayed rosette and carved 2 bridges.

Saturday I sat in the shop / garage with a few scotch and waters in hand and watched the wind and rain blow. Wasn't much of a storm in Dallas. :) Sunday I sprayed some lacquer.

Worked 12 hour days all weekend. Worked 12 hour days all last week (actually 4 of those were night shifts, had 24 hours off between nights and days). Have to keep working 12 hour days all next week.

And last night as I was getting ready to put the last coat of finish on a neck, found a crack right up the middle of the neck shaft and the fretboard and underlying veneers delaminating. [headinwall] Haven't figured out the delamination thing. Was left in the truck yesterday, but the weather was cool. Everything was epoxied. idunno Guess this one goes in the trash. So much for the completion schedule, the trip to deliver this one will have to be postponed.

Built a re-saw fence for my new saw. Re-sawed enough curly and spalted maple for 5 banduras or ten 11" wide pieces. Glued the neck and tailblocks (chickened out and used titebond but am happy I did so) in my first guitar as well as the linings (using HHG - worked great btw). Drank beer and practiced bandura for a few hours in the PMs.

Oh and some stuff with the wife and kids.

Terrible weekend. I began to put the 4th coat of Behlen's Rock Hard Varnish on my OM and it looked terrible. Rolled up and wouldn't flow out. Brush strokes quite apparent and tacky. I had thinned it with their specific thinner and added a bit of acetone per Al Carruth's thread. The first three coats went well and sanded back Ok but this one was a disaster. [headinwall]

I ended up sanding the entire body back to bare wood. This probably took off even the epoxy pore filler that I had used so I'll have to start from square one.

I've yet to decide if I want to use the Rock Hard again or just go to something else. As I sanded back the varnish you could see to topographical outlines in the finish from the prior coats and their varying hardness. I was reluctant to try and finish over them because I've been there before and the topo witness marks always come through.

I put a few scratch coats of shellac back on the body just to protect it from dirt and scuffs......

Lots and lots of sanding though. Rock Hard is just as the name implies...

Another lesson in finishing.....

I had dinner at the local Italian place, Sal Manela's pizza and also managed to get a lot done on my new shop. Most of the insulation is up and I installed my first two sheets of drywall.......

Lobster dinner with the neighbors, put the binding and purfling on #5 and helped fill and stack about 500 sandbags to save a friends business were the notables. 9" of rain in three days brought the mighty DuPage river to record levels. It crestsed this morning at 23', that's 12' above flood stage.

Well I worked Sat. and on Sunday I managed to run over to WoodCraft and Lowes and picked up some items. Cut some strips from venier and did two rings on a rosette. I was off today and I built a Wells/ Karol router base and just finished it up. I also taped it and will be working on editing it this week for another YouTube tutorial.

My eyes were almost swollen shut! Went to the Doc and got a shot and some pills and improved a lot in 24 hrs.
Never had it this bad before so obviously I got nothing done in my shop. [xx(]

Rearranged my shop for one of it's original purposes...putting a car inside! So now I have half the garage for my guitar building shop and the other half to work on my new-old car. Should prove interesting. Now I need to convince my wife we need to build a new shop, but I may wait a while before bringing it up.

Do you have the plans or the source for the plans for the router base?

Glad to see I am not the only one who makes specific wooden press blocks for the Fox Bender!

I finaly got to run my modified photo enlarger, that is now in its second life as a binding router jig . it worked quit well bliss bliss . the only modification I need to make is to the router base i fabricated out of plexiglass, I left too much plexi in front of the router, so when I got to routing the neck end of the back, my channel got shallower as the base rode up on the arched back of the guitar . all in all though an easy fix, I am happy with the results . so its on to the next step. Go to Wal MArt and get some Zanfel. Expensive, but it works.

So, what WERE you doing in the poison ivy?
