Man for years I have always just "eyed" the final position of the actual tuner backplate before drilling and mounting replacements. With Grovers, Schallers and Sprezels this is actually pretty easy, due to the screw on style bushing. The tuner will hold in place pretty well, allowing for small adjustments to be made in the final location. I think I may use a set of tuners on #1 that have the push in bushing. This made me wonder if anyone has any jigs/tips for getting the tuners aligned to the peg head before drilling the screw holes? How are you guys lining up the tuner back plates on the headstock? I am considering using Klusson Deluxe oval button style tuners if that makes a difference. Thanks, Joe |

Joe, I use the Grover and Waverly open backs and I take a straightedge and lay it across the top of both tuners on the part that holds the knob shaft. This seems to make them self-align. of course, this wouldn't work on anything else I guess.... |
