this is #0001

Wow! What does that mean though, I can't imagine that was the first instrument he ever built? So many of the familiar Lowden features are already in place; headstock and bridge shape, trim detailing, laminated neck; looks like he got it 'right' early on.

hi all
How could I forget the Split Saddle in the list above.
Easy, mine is a one piece which he did as an option, so I could put a UST in, they did’nt do the splits (transducers) in those days.

I usually only read threads on here as I don't have much to contribute yet (still on build #1) but it's amazing to me the amazing talent and willingness to share on these boards.

OMG. It's like hearing from a rock star. I'm hanging on a leaf over here. I know, it's an old thread.

I once owned a Lowden. Thanx George.

Times got real tough. Like Chemo. tough. I put it in the pawn shop. (IDIOT, IDIOT, IDIOT) fully expecting to get my baby back after the rush. But then it was too late. [headinwall]

Reading through this thread made me cry......... Literally. I'm ruined.

I CAN'T PLAY ANY OTHER GUITAR NOW....

I have to make a fool of myself here and say that I was unaware of Mr. Lowden and his beautiful instruments, but everyone here obviously has tremendous respect for him. I can see why! I am very curious about the bracing system shown in the photos--somewhat different than what we normally see. The interior photo with the translucent top suggests a very thin top (or a tremendous amount of light, or both). Am I correct in concluding that Mr. Lowden builds a thin top and then braces it very stoutly? Regardless, they are beautiful guitars and I have enjoyed reading this thread. Thanks, all.

George kindly and quite freely discussed his building style and philosophy with me, (and didn't charge me $3000), it marked a complete sea change in my building. A great guitar builder and a great man.

Colin - can you paraphrase what impressed you most about his philosophy? How did it change your building?

Thanks,
