Does anyone use the Craftsman Compu Carve for luthier work? I was watching a TV add on this machine and started thinking.......could one make bridges? carve out inlay cavities? etc... to me it looks like a mini CNC router. They are spendy but I saw one for sale for about half of retail and that got me thinking..... idunno

any experience or knowledge about this?

Thank you!

-Rick

I have a friend with one. The software IMO is VERY weak. It will not import any standard CAD files.

The software is week. The tool push off accuracy is somewhat deficient and the HP is limited for exacting work. It is what it is. It is designed to be a small shop CNC to creating CNC carved panels for hobby or craft cabinetry and works pretty good for what it is. IMO it is not a very useful tool for lutherie.

You'd be way better off to get a machine like a shopbot or a K2. They are more $, but they are definitely the next step up.
