Hey folks.....

I have a dilemma. I am thinking of selling my table saw. I am getting out of the furniture business altogether and concentrating on guitar building. Does the table saw need to stay? I have all the other power tools...except a drum sander...which I just haven't bought yet.....hence the pic of the shop.

Any input you can give would be greatly appreciated..

Better believe it. I'm just sad I don't have room for my table saw IN my shop. I have to go outside of the shop to use it.

probably the most used power tool I use in the most varied processes is my table saw, or maybe my band saw or maybe my drill press My point is these three tools are fundamental to any woodworking and You just really don't want to be with them. So I am with Don here, Keep it and don't even think about selling it.

I went through the same mental gymnastics you are going through. I had a jet Cabinet Saw that was quite good, and after I got my Festool saw, I rarely used it. I ended up selling it and got a small Makita 2704 job site saw. It handles any table saw needs that I might have. Between that and my festool saw, i haven't had any showstoppers. That being said, if my production demand were higher and I had more space, I'd probably have kept the cabinet saw. it has a more accurate fence and I can do more with jigs, etc, than I can with the job site saw.

Okay.......well that was quick...and very clear. I'll keep it. I really didn't want to get rid of it anyway. Love that thing to death. I'm off to Woodcraft to look at drum sanders!!!!!!

If I had a table saw, I'd probably find a use for it. That being said, I've been full time woodworking for about 15 years and have never owned one and don't really desire one. Some woodworkers just shake their head in wonder at that. Oh well...

Seeing as you already own one, I'd suggest keeping it. As your shop space is tight, I'd suggest getting it set on a mobile base so that you can move it so that it doesn't monopolize your space even when you don't need it.

Build a plywood, removable top for your table saw, then use it for workspace. Remove the top when you need to use the saw.

Fine idea. A buddy of mine, Joe Herrick, has an awesome saw in the middle of his shop, that backs up to a killer workbench. It's a great setup, with tons of space, etc.

I agree - keep the saw, and I second the mobile base idea. I have one for mine and can move it with one hand (not bad for a 550 lbs saw). Also, it can be locked in place so it won't move. It's made for the saw by General, but I'd venture to say it would fit yours as well seeing as the sizing is adjustable.
