Hey all
I am in the consideration stages of my neck right now and I had a question that I wanted to ask... I am building the Antes Sm Concert and in addition to slimming down the braces I was wondering about changing the fretscale "slightly".
I ended up buying both the SM Gibson fretting template #4917 For Gibson 24.562" and 25.300"
and I also bought the SM fretscale rule #0800 with
24.562" Gibson (24-9/16")/
24.625" Gibson (24-5/8")/
24.750" Gibson (24-3/4")/
25.300" Gibson long
I noticed that the Antes plans call for a perfect 24.5 fretscale..... and I was thinking of just using the 24.562" scale and making a minor adjustment to the bridge position,,,
(only and not shifting anything else to adjust)
Would this be ok?
I assumed it would - because the increment is so small.... being .125" overall..
But if there is one thing Ive learned in this life it is
"that its not what you dont know that will get you,...
its what you dont know you dont know"
So I figured no harm in asking - other than looking like a total goober - which Im used too...

Cheers
Charlie

I've only got one guitar under my belt, so take this advice accordingly, but I can't imagine it could possibly matter. Even if I could have measured bridge placement that closely, I had more wiggle than 0.06 when gluing my bridge. Then you've got the placement of the saddle slot and you still have to intonate.

I bet you're fine.

Thats what I figured,,,
I figured no harm in asking even though >stupid question... duh
so I guess Id like to ask (in order to raise the calibre of the thread slightly)
When would you start to begin to consider changing the layout of your braces - ?
Is it more of a matter of making sure your bridgeplate position is adequate...for seating of the bridge?
more so than any other consideration...?
If so (it would seem to me) that makes it a fairly easy consideration..
As shifting the bridgeplate, would seem to indicate also shift the Xbraces forward or back proportionally,,,as well....

However I do realize that there are numerous numerous considerations that come into play when changing the bracing of any given model and I dont mean to oversimplify the process of redesigning this very important aspect of a guitar model.
(although Im sure its pretty fun once you know what your doing somewhat)

Thanks for the confirmation on my original question guys... Im curious about when scale length begins to affect the positioning of the bracing etc - as I have small hands
(I believe the technical term is sausage fingers)
so I would probably like to change any scales 25" or so... to a 24 3/4" or so... if I could get away with it.
Cheers
Charlie
