Hey, that looks familiar...

Here's some trivia for you: Munch made several versions of the painting, and the one in the National Gallery in Oslo was stolen in 1994 in a spectacular burglary. For weeks that was the top story in all the news over here, but it eventually turned up again. There was rumors organized crime and great sums of money that had changed hands and so on. Then, in 2004 the Scream in the picture above and Madonna, another painting by Munch was stolen, this time from the Munch Museum in Oslo. Total chaos, you'd think world war 3 just broke out! Two years later the paintings turned up again, this time evidently one of the suspects in another big robbery had tipped the police in exchange for a lower sentence... :o

(Scream) is said by some to symbolize the human species overwhelmed by an attack of existential angst. The landscape in the background is Oslofjord, viewed from the hill of Ekeberg, in Oslo (then Kristiania), Norway
