Hello,

I'm new here. I was hanging out at another luthier's forum, but it seemed awfully quiet over there, so I guessed everyone was hanging out somewhere else. After a bit of googling, I found the OLF. You all seem to be having way too much fun, so I thought I'd see if there was room for one more.

I just got bitten by the guitar building bug a few months ago. I did a bunch of reading/watching DVD's first, then jumped in with my first build, from scratch. It's going to be a kind of OM35-ish instrument with sitka spruce top and koa back and sides.

I have been posting my build-log (blog....) at that other place. If you like, I'll subject you all to the trials and tribulations of my first build too.....I have a trillion photos already. I just glued the soundboard onto the sides last weekend. It's going quite well so far.

I got the back fitted, ready for gluing, prior to gluing the soundboard.

More later...

Cheers,

Dave F.

Welcome to the forum Dave! Always room for one more over here and it is a GREAT bunch of guys to hang around with too. From the seasoned experts to the noobies, we all fit in well and learn a lot and have a good time at the same time. It is GREAT to see you posting pictures on your first post too!

The only advice I can give you is to watch out for Hesh. He has been known to paint  the soundboards on his guitars black for no aparent reason. Other than that, he's a pretty good guy.

welcome aboard!

Seriously, always room for another builder here. You do nice clean work. Oh yeah we really like pictures here!

Welcome. This place is a great resource for someone learning, or a
seasoned vet who is is still learning. Search the archive and you'll be
suprised how much info you can find.

On top of painting soundboards black, Hesh will photoshop you into a
compromising situation, so watch out for your face getting in any photos.
Oh, he'll also tends to buy all the zoot before anyone else has a chance.
So be fast.

The getter is looking good.

Welcome to OLF Dave.  This is the place for steady activity.  There are nearly always a bunch of people on line over here.  It is a very active group.  And, they are prolific builders.  Hesh collects his own builds, just so he can play "Smoke on the Water" on lots of different guitars.  I'm new too, and am building my first.  I can't tell you how much I have learned here.  Great bunch of guys.

Hey Dave! Welcome to the OLF. Don't mention anything about (whisper)
Ervin Somgyi and you should do fine. If Grumpy tells you that you are
dumb for not cutting your kerfed lining with a salvaged tire rim take it in
stride because he is wealth of info and willing to share it!

I'm gonna go out on a limb here and guess that you've done a bit of woodworking before? Of course anyone can do clean work like that on number 1 but for Pete's sake, nobody has that many parallel jaw clamps just lying around.

Welcome Dave.

Dang, you have a lot of clamps...not that I have clamp envy, or anything like that.

Say, does your "Cambrian" have anything to do with the Cambrian Explosion? Because if it did, that would make you FAAAAAAAR too intellectual to hang out here.

Clean work. Very impressive.

Bill

PS: My clamps are every bit that big. Really.

Dave - Welcome to the insane asylum, I mean the OLF!

When I first read your post I was tempted to warn you about Hesh and WaddyT and Billy....... But, alas, I was not fast enough.

That is one great looking build!  I would hope to do as well.

Oh, there is one more to warn you about....Grumpy!
