I didn't know whether or not it was done before, but decided to give it a go. Now I'm waiting for the money to buy tuning machines. The tricky part of this design is keeping the extension from contacting the top inside to allow for top vibration. I have some ideas on how to do this a bit differently in future versions too. The fret board was really easy to keep perfectly level because I essentially had no neck joint, and rather than using a cantilevered neck block I simply ran my neck through, so I could glue the fingerboard onto solid mahogany the whole way. Rather than sandwiching my top there I cut it out and tucked it under fret board extension notches. I was really worried about adding too much weight with the "backbone", and whittled it down quite a bit. To my surprise it seems rather light.

I used some recycled stainless steel countertop scrap material from a local junkyard to make the string end holders. The martin X bracing was used because it's all I really know yet, and would like to experiment in the future. I saw a picture of Tacoma's Eagle series(?) design and almost duplicated their much more minimal bracing pattern but decided to play it safe. This picture was actually taken before i did some additional shaving.

Since this is so far a prototype some aspects are still a bit sketchy and improvised, but the idea seems to be evolving quite well. It's a little bit like a banjo structure, and different from other bridges that don't have upward pressure in that it doesn't use a trapeze bridge, and achieves the benefit of a steeper angle of support without using any pins.
