That is one nice plank. I would have offered more, but the swampland was all my family had. Originally, there was a castle built there, but it sank into the swamp, then, we built a second castle there, but it....
Fabulous picture. I love mahogany, and actually have a really big collection of cuban mahogany from the keys. Whatever you paid for that plank it was worth it. Thanks for letting me see it! I just don't know how you will ever bear cutting it!

Here is a Breedlove I had made from a set. You can tell she liked it, or is that licked it.

I'm wandering if mahogany has to be flat-sawn to get the quilt figure like maple? Are your sets flat-sawn?

All are not flat sawn. If you look at the end grain (I'll try to take a picture) it's very hard to tell as even the end grain is highly figured. The Breedlove in the photo was quartersawn. Most of the tree was cut in planks making most of it flatsawn. I've see got a lot of old picture from my source with a young Robert Novak standing buy the wood. Some was quartered logs were to be seen. It it my understanding that it didn't matter how "The Tree" was sawn. Figure was everywhere. I have one 44 in by 11 in board from the ones I billeted last year. I'll get a photo of end and let you try to figure (no pun intended) out.

I have a copy of that 1985 Fine Woodworking Magazine with the "Tale of a Magnificent Mutant" for each set of wood I have. Nice to have the provenance and the story. I have PDF's of the article if anyone want it.
